Tips & Tricks Thursday- "Its all about making connections"

Welcome to our newest series: Tips & Tricks!

This tip I think will be helpful for all those starting out in your creative business as well as you veterans out there!

One of the best things about a creative business is getting to be passionate about something and getting to share it with others.  Customers love to cheer for their favorite artists/businesses ESPECIALLY in the handmade genre (in my humble opinion).  As a customer I love knowing not only am I getting a thought out heartfelt item I am also getting to help a small business continue to grow and continue to follow their dream.

So how do you create these connections here are a few tips!

1) Tell your story, it doesn't have to be as long as Moby Dick but give out little snippets on your blog, your Facebook page, your Instagram feed whatever it is that you are using to market your business make sure you are talking about yourself sometimes, your process, your favorite supplies, etc.  Readers love this it helps them feel that they too are part of the process and that you are one person living your life and following a dream.

2) When you send out a product send something to say thank you.  Sign an actual thank you card with a quick note.  Sign the back of a business card.  Send a little something extra.... do you sell fabric send a little bag of buttons.  Throw in a few treats.

3) Wrap your product (if you can) like a gift itself.  Lets be honest most creative businesses are selling products that aren't a necessity, they are a treat or gift for the buyer or someone they love so treat it like it is a gift and let them enjoy the process of opening.  (you don't have to go overboard here but wrapping things in tissue and tying a ribbon around it is a small touch that goes a long way!)

4) Give them a reason to come back.  Randomly (or always) include a coupon in your package to encourage them to come back and purchase something else.  I just went recently to a large chain restaurant and when they gave me back my receipt they also gave me a card to come back and get a percentage off my next meal.  Starbucks also will do this as a promotion from time to time.  Get a coffee in the morning get another half off in the afternoon.  It works, otherwise the "big guys" wouldn't be doing it!

So there you go 4 quick tips to start building connections with your customers.  Have tips of your own I would love to hear them!

Have a problem you would love to be solved by my tips & tricks, ask away!  Until we meet again, get crafting folks!
